Sean Mháthair

Tapestry wallhanging on display in the Augustinian Church, Shop Street, Drogheda. This piece was commissioned by the Augustinian Community to celebrate their 700 years in the town. It features motifs from the Harry Clarke stained glass window which can be seen in the church.  The image of the Grandmother or Sean Mhathair depicts feminine wisdom in a time of change.  Acceptance of the stages of abundance, decay, stillness and new growth as a part of life…something to live with..to dance with.. This is a copy of an image from Mandala by Jose and Miriam Argurelles. ‘With it’s eight cardinal points – and a ninth, the centre point the Tjuringa stone, reproduced here, recalls the eight petals of the Solar Flower of the Hawaiians, or the Eight-fold Wheel of the Law, The Dharmachakra of the Buddists.’
